I finished my 3rd round of Chemo on Feb 25. Everything went well. My blood work numbers are dropping which makes me tired and very susceptible to infection. Though I'm where I'm supposed to be according to the doctors. Well I made the hard decision to have a Stem Cell Transplant. It offered me the best chance at a cure. It's a high risk procedure with a possibility of a high risk pay off. AML is a hard disease. I refuse to beat me. Starting on March 14 I begin all my pre work for the transplant. I check into the hospital on the 30th to start the chemo. Then on April 6th we do the transplant. The dates could change but that's the plan right now. Thank you for reading this. Be blessed. :)

Hi. My name is Shera Drake.

I went to the emergency room November 17 with a infected finger from a cut. The doctor ran blood work and told me he thought I had leukemia. The infection in my finger had gotten so bad because my immune system was so compromised from the cancer. The doctor told me the best place to be for leukemia was MD Anderson. So a few days later I was mediflighted to Houston to MD Anderson. Where I met Dr Kornblau. He confirmed I had leukemia and specifically AML - Acute Myeloid Leukemia with rare DNA mutation. I was started on a clinical trial which includes 7 rounds of chemo therapy over 7 months with the possibility that we may need to do a stem cell transplant. I am currently in the middle of the 2nd round of chemo.
